Bodmin & Lanivet residents oppose proposed turbine plans

BLOT (Bodmin and Lanivet Oppose Turbines) Cornwall, is an action group opposed to the proposed building of huge wind turbines in the Lanivet, Bodmin area in the beautiful countryside of North Cornwall.

Ecotricity wants to build 4 wind-turbines in the Reperry Cross area, on the side of the hill stretching alongside the Bodmin bypass (see map below).

At the minimum suggested height of 330 feet, that's more than twice the height of the Bodmin Beacon, and amongst the tallest in Cornwall these proposed monsters will dominate the whole area.

While turbines were believed to be of a viable green energy source, reports are increasing from home and abroad that they are not in fact the answer to our energy problems (see links).

Even if Cornwall is forced to have so many of these turbines, we believe that the siting of these proposed at Reperry Cross to be wholly unsuitable, being within ½ a mile of the village of Lanivet, only ¾ mile from Helman Tor (area of scientific interest) and adjacent nature reserves, and approx. 256 feet higher than the tor!

We have had our member of parliament, Dan Rogerson (Lib Dem) to one of our meetings, and he has offered to put two questions to parliament that he feels need to be answered, concerning health issues, and location of turbines in the vicinity of domestic dwellings. Sian Flynn (prospective Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for North Cornwall) is also to attend one of our meetings.

Did you know...

  • Wind energy is one of the least efficient methods of generating power.
  • Your ever increasing electricity bills help fund government payouts to turbine companies and landowners.
  • Properties near to or overlooked by turbines can expect a drop in value (see Daily Telegraph article dated 26/7/08).
  • Noise and strobe effect from turbines elsewhere have caused major health problems.

For excellent coverage on the subject see the other blot (Bozeat Lavendon Oppose Turbines) at www.abwd.co.uk.

Think you won't be affected?

Go on - stand on the tor and look towards the Bodmin Beacon and imagine the domination of such turbines, or stand by the Bodmin Beacon and look towards the tor. Hard to imagine the impact of such monsters and their effect on the area against the minimal amount of electricity generated - do nothing and they will happen.

Coming soon...

Look out for our articles in the Cornish Guardian. Also look out for our balloon flying in close proximity to the proposed sites on various occasions.

A public exhibition by Ecotricity is being held on Tuesday 29th July at Lanivet Parish Hall and from 30 July to 13 August at Bodmin Library. If / when you have seen this exhibition, you wish to join those of us who oppose the siting of these turbines at Reperry Cross area, please contact us on the number or email below:-
